Change Database

Change Database allows you to connect to a different SQL Server database or instance.

License Manager can connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or later, whether installed on your local computer or on a remote server. To connect to a different SQL Server, you will need to know:

  • The name of the computer it is running on
  • The name of the instance it is installed as

Your IT support department should be able to provide you with these details if necessary.

  1. Click Change Database in the settings menu.
  2. Type in the SQL Server Name. The correct format is SQL-SERVER-COMPUTER-NAME\INSTANCE-NAME.
  3. Select the authentication type to use for the SQL Server.
  4. If you are creating a new database and type in the New Database Name. If you have an existing License Manager database, select Open an Existing Database and select it from the drop-down list.
  5. Click the Test Connection button to verify the entered details are correct. If successful, a connection succeeded message will be displayed. If there is a problem, an error message will appear. Click OK to close the message.
  6. Click OK to close the License Manager database setup screen.

Please note: If you change to a database that has not been licensed to the current version of License Manager, the Update License task is automatically started.
